Principles of Music for the Advancing Guitarist provides a thorough examination of chord voicings, diatonic harmony, modes and other scales we use to improvise, including improvisational techniques to help build better solos. The contents include phrasing, developing melodies and learning how to build tension or how to resolve tension in a solo.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Michael Tahlier is a professional musician, educator, and author, who lives in the greater Chicago area. Michael obtained his Masters of Music from DePaul University and his Bachelors of Music from Berklee College of Music. In 2011, Mr. Tahlier opened Musician’s Workshop, a music learning center and music retail store in the western suburbs of Chicago. Additionally, Michael is the Director of the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay’s Rock Academy, a summer enrichment program offering the rock band experience to students in grades 8 through the graduating senior. As a professional musician, Michael works with songwriters, plays lead guitar in various corporate projects, and tours nationally.
